The guesthouse is located on Salthill Promenade, a 5-minute walk from the village. Blackrock, at the end of the promenade, is a gathering spot for sea swimmers. The diving tower is popular in summer. Galway city center is a 12-minute walk away.

Westwinds is family-run, with free private parking and a focus on local culture. Owners Shauna and Mike also operate a catering business. The guesthouse is part of the Wild Atlantic Way, midway between Connemara and the Burren.
